Training German Shepherds problem!

GSD happy dogIn this article i will tell you some of my experiences with a German Shepherd dog and what i found out and learned from that experience, this was a long time ago and i have gotten another view of how training is to be done  German Shepherds, but this is a true story and hopefully you will have some conclusions to draw from it. Training German Shepherds can be a difficult chore, if you make it out that way. You can not hide that training German Shepherds can be a difficult and be demanding on the handler,  i don’t like the word owner so i will use the word handler. The German Shepherd is a very strong dog and i had the privilege of trying to train the dog, and i failed miserably. Why did i fail?  Well because of thinking that i could get the knowledge solely out of books, and not by having the dog to a proper training course with, other people and other dogs.  It is very important to proper socialize a dog so that he learns to get a long with other dogs and other people.

What problems did i have with my dog?  Well he was pulling the leash, and when walking along roads where there where occasionally drive cars by, he would tens up when the car came towards us and try to jump the car when it was close enough.  So how did i react to this problem?   What  i usually would do was to shorten he leash and showing the dog with my body language that the car was a danger, because i would know that he would try to jump at the car.  Sometimes i actually had to fight with him to stop him from doing that, and i mean take him down and hold him.  At one time he actually broke the leash an ran in front of the car and was hit by the car,  fortunately the driver of the car an old lady that managed to stop the car.  I ran at the dog and took a closer look at him to see if he was hurt, because it sounded like that, it was a grate thud and i thought that he must been hit badly,  but  in training German Shepherds it must have given him a strong constitution,  he was just dancing around like he wanted to say to me,  hey this is fun i got the car, so i checked him out and he was unharmed, and the car was okay to, but i guess the little  lady in the car got a scare.

This was the most difficult problem i had with my dog, a problem that really could be solved.  How do i know that, well because i did have my dog to a proper dog trainer once in a while,  and when i got him back he was like another dog, respectful and  a joy to walk with. But when i had had him for a while after getting him back, the training he had gotten wore off, because i had not learn t what he picked up from the trainer, that’s why i recommend that you at least have one course in training German Shepherds with a live trainer, if  he or she has been at it for a while, they can every trick in the book and it is totally worth it,  if you can get something of their knowledge into your dog handling.

But my problem was,  i did not connect the two together, i didn’t pursue the the tough of:   What did i do wrong?  I had other things to think about,  going to work and  getting the bills paid , so i just left it for later, thinking that i could solve the problems myself.  Notice…The best advice in training German Shepherds is this, you better overcome your own ego, because it will save you time and money if you do.  To try and do everything by yourself is not a good idea, it is like if you should take care of a child’s upbringing all by yourself, and ignore all advice other then from books.  If you think that you can learn it all from books,  i can tell you it’s not that easy, the problem is that you forget most of what you read, and in training German Shepherds you have to use time and consistency.  But one thing you can do and which can be of help is getting a proper video course, a training course with a live trainer can be expensive, but to watch on video how a proper trainer learns the dog and people together how to handle situations, that is a good add on to a live training course.German-Shepherd-barking

So if you want to train your dog and avoid situations like i had with my dog, here is the bottom line, it is possible to train the dog  yourself, but i recommend a live training course,  no one knows all there is to know about training German Shepherds,  but ” Erik Letendre “, have made an excellent video training program. German Shepherd training | Video

Hi,  have put together a short video with pictures of my life with my German Shepherd Max and with some of the scenery from the southern part of Norway where i live, and with a few pictures from the beach, and the Karmøy island.  Training German Shepherds is really a life long experience, many people expect results from training German Shepherds in days, but every dog is an individual and it is a life long task to shape your dog to behave like you want him to.  And one have to remember it is supposed to be fun, walking around in the nature and experiencing nature, it should be a relaxing experience and not a stressful.  Allow the dog to work off the energy that has built up inside of them. They will feel better later.

You have to be relaxed around your dog, if you stress and think about how you want him to behave, you are not particular relaxed, and the dog will not respond well to you.  Learning something to a German Shepherd or any dog to make him do something reliable, demands repetition, you have to make him do the same thing again and again and give him rewards for doing it, dogs are just like humans, they respond better to rewards than getting pushed around, Never, beat, kick or hurt your dog, he will remember it and it is the perfect way to ruin the relationship with the dog, your dog will not trust you.

With training German Shepherds you have to know that it is not always easy,  everyone dog or human can have a bad day, we are governed by our minds what we think, and how we feel, and the dogs are really the same at a different level. I read somewhere that a dogs intelligence is par, with a two year old and that they have the ability to solve complex problems and are more similar to humans and apes than thought of before. But in dog training and in the gsd training, remember that dogs are not people, he is a dog, and i mean that in a positive way. Always also remember that dogs live in the present, they are easily distracted, and will sometimes find a bird flying up from the bushes or anything that catch their attention, more exciting then what you want them to do, the dog may also not respond well if you overloads them with commands, always one thing at a time so that he understands what you want him to do, and reward him for doing so.

You probably already know that in training German Shepherds, the experience of the nature is relaxing for both owners and dogs, the best is if you can go somewhere where you can let your dogs go loose without being afraid of that the dog will run after other animals, like sheep’s  or cattle, the dogs loves to run around without going in a leash, and you can relax and the dogs will never run far away because they always will want to be with the flock, which you are the leader of  if you do your German Shepherd training well.  If you do want to know the secrets in training your German Shepherd  you can either click this link now to discover the secrets or you can visit the site directly to uncover it by clicking here, but no matter what your decision, this site about

German Shepherd | Heeding the Owners Call

Is your German Shepherd coming to you when you call on him? Or do he pretend that he does not hear you, and go on doing something else that he might finds interesting.  It is important for dog owners that the dog comes to them when called to do so.  When they fail to give heed to the owner’s call, it can mean trouble.  If the dog is active and does not come when called, they can run into traffic and get hit by a car or other bad stuff might happen . It is a really bad idea to let your German Shepherd dog run free without a leash, unless it is in a safe environment, like a tour of the woods where you are sure of that there is no other animals that your dog will chase.  Otherwise the owner should always have the dog on a leash.

In fact, many urban areas require that a dog is on a leash or the owner could face seriouis  fines. Once they can roam free and unattended, the dog could care less about obeying the commands of their owner. Once the dog act like this , they will not give any attention to the owner’s calls,  or come to the owner sometimes but never every time. If you have not let this type of behavior  happen, don’t start it. However, if you have, do your best to reverse the situation. You must train them to respond when you say “come here”and other commands. The best for everybody people and animals is that you have full control of your German Shepherd dog, and other people will not see it as you do, to some the German Shepherd may be considered like a wolf, so keep and train your dog so that you have full control of the dog and you will enhance the reputation of the German Shepherd race and your own reputation to.
When you use the “come here” command, use it in a way that will be good for the dog. First play with him, then do other things with him. If you use the command and then clean him up after wards, that will not be negative. Make sure that your dog does not connect your command to a bad experience. Your dog will always be learning.  It’s important that each process of teaching and training is something that is positive. That way, they won’t hesitate to do whatever it is you want them to do. Every time you command the dog to come, give him a treat. It does not have to be to fancy.  Praising the dog can include scratching behind the ears or patting them on the head.  Just as long as it’s something that makes him feel good.

Training German Shepherds

When you are starting up with training German shepherd dog you must be aware that training  German shepherds dogs require a competent and experienced handler.  German shepherds are one of the most intelligent, loyal and loving breeds around but they are a demanding dog that need a lot of exercise to be a happy dog, if they do not get enough exercise at least an hour a day of heavy exercise, they will find something else to do, like finding something to chew on, and they have really a great set of teeth’ s so, if you can’t give him enough exercise you better give him something to chew on, or he will find something that he thinks is a chewable object if he is bored.

A German shepherd is a great family dog he binds very close to a family and really is the best family dog you can get, he is very protective and will tell you when someone you do not know is approaching your house. Now about training  German shepherds there are a lot of training methods out there, i have tried clicker training which is one of them, this is a great way to train your dog but it requires consistency in  what you do, you have to do the same thing over and over again and it can take some time before you see results from it.

Leash training when leash training you have to tell the dog who is the boss, if you let him decide what to do he will pull you along, because you have not told him who is the boss so he thinks that he is, and will pull you along. The right way to tell your german shepherd who is the boss is not screaming and/or being angry , then he will only only pull even more because if you get angry he can literally smell it, and will because of that become skeptic to your behavior and probably think , why is he so angry i’ll better go away from him till he cams down. The German shepherd is a very intelligent dog and understands your feelings long before that you do, he has an excellent nose for trouble, and anger and hostile actions will make him run away faster than you can say “Holy Shit”. The right way to leash train your dog is to take it easy and if he pulls the leash stop and stand still and give him something when he comes back to you a treat or attention.

Unfortunately in the stressed up society we have today taking a walk with the dog can become a stressful task, when you still are occupied with that you soon must go to work or other stuff that you should have done, the german shepherd can feel and smell if you are not up to your best and will act accordingly, because of that he reckons you as he’s flock and he in the wild is totally dependent the flock. So you are he’s flock and think of what this mean try to allways be gentle and kind to him and treat him with respect and kindness. However you have to show him who is the decider, you should never allow him to lay in your furniture sofa or so on, i have found that with the german shepherd i had, that he prefferred to stay on the floor and did not want to go up in the sofa,  i don’t know if this is a common treat of shepherds, but my dog did not like the sofa, and kept himself on the floor.

This is something of what i have experienced with my six years with a German shepherd, if you want to get really into what training methods that is the best and what tricks you can learn your german shepherd, you should consider checking out this program: Click Here <<<(Advertisement)
