Your dog is full off energy and happy to go outside but when he come outside he starts to pull you along like you weigh nothing. What do you do to stop dog from pulling? Training your German shepherd not to pull is best done from the start and as a puppy. With the weight and strong German shepherd you do not want a dog that pulls like a maniac. A German shepherd can without difficulties pull a full grown man with him. So the first thing you need to know is that a long leash is not a great tool for learning how to stop dog from pulling you.

You can not control the dog with a long leash, so get rid of that. You have to have a short 4-6 feet leash to have control and the closeness of the dog.The golden rule is that when the dog apply tension to the leash you stop and don't move. You then must be standing in one place until the dog listens to you, and when you feel you have contact with him. When the dog tries to pull you react with words like ah-ah and No. Telling him close to the face, leaning down, like to a small child that it is not okay to pull. This will work if you apply it every time and stop dog from pulling.

The correction you give is simply not to move. No yelling or any other thing. If your dog is a super puller lock the leash at the side of your hip with both arms. Then bow down and tell him that it is not all right to pull. To do this you have to be close and in the face of the dog. A dog is likened to a child. You would not yell to a child if he or she did not understand you. And it is the same with a dog. Be gentle and the dog will listen to you. Remember that you are teaching the dog and not scolding him if he do errors. Your patience will be tested, but if you apply consistency in what you do this will work and the dog will give you attention.

Another thing you can do when you train your dog in this way is to walk with him and then change directions.Reward him with attention when he do the right things. This is how he will understand what is the right thing to do when you teach it to him. You do not need to give him treats and bribing him to do the things you want from him, but to give him attention and worldly praise. A dog will understand more of how you feel if you are stressed out, angry or other feelings because he can feel it or smell it coming from you. So, try to be came and think happy thoughts when training your dog. This is really all there is to it. The best thing is to start with this as a puppy so that you have it right in the beginning.
